What is DataGEMS?
The Idaho Hospital Association (IHA) is providing powerful data and analysis tools to member hospitals at no additional cost. This valuable membership benefit will come with access to a complement of hospital-specific reports and summaries, comparison data, and financial reports designed to analyze the impact of proposed Medicare regulations and legislative proposals.
Where do the data come from?
IHA has partnered with the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) DataGEN program to provide hospital financial data in a format that is useable and ready for modeling, budget forecasting, decision-making, and advocacy.
The data are derived from information accessible from previously reported data and does not require hospitals to create any new report or provide additional data.
The analyses are developed using Medicare cost reports, Med PAR (inpatient Medicare claims), the Medicare outpatient claims, impact files from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and wage survey data files.
What does IHA DataGEMS provide?
IHA DataGEMS will provide Idaho-specific information from HANYS and will launch in December 2011.
Planned reports include analysis on Medicare proposed and final rules, margin calculations, prospective payment system report sets for inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, skilled nursing, psychiatric and long term care payments. Beginning in 2012 there will also be data books available specifically for critical access hospitals.
Information-based tools to support the operational, advocacy and educational needs of IHA member hospitals and health systems will be available. Hospitals will receive customized reports showing their hospital's specific analyses.
IHA DataGEMS will be a valuable advocacy tool for the association to advocate the effects of CMS proposed rules on member hospitals and the communities they serve.
